History of Sachkhere Mountain-Training School
The 16th Mountain Battalion was set up on the basis of current Mountain-training School in 1991. The Georgian national hero Besik Kutateladze laid foundation for the Battalion. The military formation used to take part in battles for the territorial integrity of Georgia. 21 military servicemen died during combat operations.
Rapid build up and development of Georgian Armed Forces began right after the well-known 2003 Rose Revolution, which brought the new government to power.
Sachkhere Mountain Training School was established under the Order #240 of the Minister of Defence of Georgia on 14 August 2006.
In 2010, within the framework of NATO-Georgia partnership, School was officially granted with the status of PfP (Partnership for Peace Program) Training and Education Center.
